The Friday Edit - Ed. 16
A few things I've been reading, noticing, and adding to my cart this week
This week has been a bit of a rollercoaster for me. Last week I had a some sort of flu bug that lasted for two days and just when I started to feel 100% again, I got a post-nasal drip that turned into a cold. This wasn’t part of the plan. I’ve been trying to wrap up work things, schedule content, and get last minute tasks around the house finished this week in preparation for taking some maternity leave, which, as a freelancer comes with it’s own set of stresses. I’ve been attempting to do all of this while trying to be very present in the last week before our family changes. So coughing myself to sleep at night hasn’t been a welcomed addition. Yesterday, I finally turned a corner and am starting to feel more like myself. Phew!
As a reminder, next Friday I will be in the hospital giving birth to our baby girl. I will have a Friday Edit planned but it will be my last until sometime in June when I feel ready to come back. My weekly Thursday post will continue to be sent out during this period. If you want to read it, make sure you are subscribed!
Now, let’s get into the things I’ve been reading, noticing, and adding to my cart this week!
What I’ve Been Reading
For my book club, I started reading the novel The Friend by Sigrid Nunez. It won the National Book Award in 2018, so odds are, you’ve heard of it. I started reading two days ago and I’m in deep.
I love Samantha Brown, here are her tips on how to prepare for travel mishaps as we enter the busy summer travel season.
If you are still planning your summer out and need some inspiration, here is Lonely Planet’s list of places to go this summer.
Swim vacations are on the rise as part of the wellness travel trend. I’m fully on board as I love swimming in both a pool and the sea. Here, you can read about Travel and Leisure’s best places to swim in the ocean.
Thoughts on Mother’s Day
If you are scrambling for Mother’s Day, I have some great ideas for gifts:
La Ligne is offering monogramming for mother’s day. I love this brand (The quality! The fit! The style!) I’m eyeing this great top with monogramming on the sleeve for Mother’s Day.
Some jewelry pieces from Eriness Jewelry that caught my eye: This emerald signet ring, this multi-colored heart ring, and this pink sapphire domed ring. All of these pieces come in different stones so you can get the right birthstone if that’s something you’re interested in.
Another jewelry brand I love, Aurate, is having a 25% off sale (Use Code MOM). I love this personalized necklace, this mixed shape tennis bracelet, this pink ombré baguette tennis bracelet, this chunky oval ring, and this bezel tennis necklace.
For new or expecting mom’s, I love this dress from Hatch that can be worn both pre- and postpartum. I also love their underwear.
The Hatch (different co, same name) Restore light is a great way to sleep without a phone by your bed and to naturally wake up with light instead of a jarring alarm. Right now, it’s $15 off with code: LETMOMSLEEP
This Kyte Baby sleeping sack is so soft and has a great design for infants and young ones.
I ended up not using a dedicated ‘diaper bag’ instead, I used this go-pouch where I carried diapers, a foldable changing mat, wipes, and anything else I needed. Then I would just pop it in whatever tote or purse I wanted to carry that day.
This French Hair Pin which is so easy to use and much more chic than a clip - mother’s on the go will love this.
What I’m Eyeing
Ever since I bought my son a terry cloth shorts + top set from Hanna Anderson two years ago, I’ve been looking for one for myself. I’ve finally found some great options!!! I love the look (and price) of this set from Marnie Layer: Beach Terry Short, Beach Terry Tank. While we’re on Marine Layer, I also love these seersucker pants, matching seersucker button-up, and seersucker shorts.
ME+EM has a couple of very chic terry cloth sets: These pants + this cap sleeve top are great for lounging or for travel days. I also love these terry track shorts with the matching halterneck or matching tee for travel days, these terry track pants are great with the matching tee.
Madewell is having a 25% off their accessories sale. Here are my picks: This silk scarf in a new and very chic print, this raffia tote (with a leather inside pocket), and this slightly smaller raffia tote, this colorful semi-precious beaded necklace (which is so fun for summer), these suede boat shoe mules which are a very easy late spring/summer shoe (especially if your travel takes you coastal), this eyelet bandana, and these effortlessly cool paracord sandals, lastly, I’m not a big “bag charm” person, but I love the idea of this bag bead as a way to personalize/add something to any bag you have.
I like the paracord look for the summer and came across this very cool bracelet and necklace that combine paracord and lab grown diamonds.
For a pop of color, this Kule shirt nails the cobalt blue. It’s a splurge, but it’s infinitely wearable and timeless.
There are so many great sandals at good prices this year. I’ve been waiting for these jelly gumdrop sandals to come back in stock (don’t sleep on these! They’re $55). Also, I love these Tkees flip flops for a chic, low profile, and comfortable sandal. Tkees also makes this two strap version, which I also love.
I recently got these Coastal Pants from the brand Left on Friday, and they are going to be a go-to this summer for me.
My favorite hat brand (I’ve been wearing it for years), has very kindly given me a 10% off code. I love this style and this style… but they’re all good. Use code: MOIRA10 for 10% off.
Until next Friday!
xx,
Moira
